spalted beech bowl
The spalted element of the timber is the black markings that are shown so well here. It is caused by a bacteria that attacks the grain while the tree is growing (but ceases to be active when the tree is felled) and creates this
attractive natural patterning.
The timber was sourced in Lincolnshire.
